In our latest collaborative study with Doppl SA and SUN bioscience, we developed a physiologically relevant 3D blood-brain barrier (BBB) spheroid model using distinct Cellaris™ dyes to label each cell type – primary human astrocytes, brain microvascular pericytes, and cerebral endothelial cells.
A simple 1-hour incubation with 2 nM dye concentrations delivered bright, stable fluorescence across all cell types, with no signal loss over 8 days of 3D spheroid culture.
This enabled long-term, high-resolution visualization of BBB architecture and cellular dynamics – offering a powerful model for evaluating drug permeability and transport in a controlled environment.
